Pete and i hung around quite a bit.  The main memories i have of Pete was, he always had your back.  He was one of the toughest guys i ever met.  Another was his great desire to follow in his fathers footsteps as an equiptment operator.  Pete and his dad were very close. I remember sitting in the "student lounge" and he'd pull out a 3 1/2 inch folding pocket knife to clean his finger nails.  You'd do that now and you'd have a swat team invading the building!!  We'd talk for ever about hunting and fishing, never anything about school.  I think Pete always wanted to be someplace else.  The most profound memory i have of Pete was when his Father came over to our house to ask if I would be part of the burial party that was to handle the funeral for Pete.  I remember when they took the American Flag off his coffin, folded it very carefully and handed it to me.  Then i gave it to his mother, stepped back and gave her a slow salute.  That was by far the hardest thing I've ever done without starting to cry like a baby. Pete was a great friend.  The world lost a good man when he died.  RIP my friend.
